FSA Presents
Summer Showcase – July 25, 2020
August 1, 2020 – by Angela Serini
With no competitions in sight, Coach, Nick Rock, felt he still needed to make it feel like the season ended on a high note. So he came up with “Summer Showcase”. The idea being an opportunity to present a competition environment with local judges, full costume, programs, medals and to run it similar to a competition.
Nick picked 3 figures and two loops for each of his returning skaters to perform. Also, the skaters who skate freestyle would perform their routines as well. The difference between the showcase and a competition was the way it was scored. Nick made individual score sheets for each skater and the score sheets were composed of yes or no evaluation questions. Nick wanted actual feedback, not just a number score. Each question was based off of skills or techniques that each skater is currently working on.
The schedule included Adult, Tiny Tot and Youth Figures, Youth and Adult Loops and Tiny Tot, Youth and Adult Freestyle.
Dressed in their competitive outfits, 15 skaters performed and for most it was their first experience in front of judges. Once it was all over, we held a medal ceremony. The medals were not for participation; but, for completing the 2020 season. Also, at the end, “Skater of the Day” was awarded to Ruby Ruggeri and “Most Improved Skater” to Cailyn Ellinwood. The club also surprised Coach Nick with the Coach of the Year award. It was a great day to be FSA!
Thank you to our judges Ted Hansford, Lee Remley, Giuliana Testini and Angela Serini. And thank you Coach Danya Ellinwood and our social media and marketing expert, Cameron Ellinwood.
